Mi Goreng

Mi Goreng

Mi Goreng is here to rock your noodle-world. This might seem like an overstatement. But this bowl of noodles is loaded with flavour and is one of the easiest noodle recipes you will ever come across. And you can have it ready in a matter of minutes. It's a win-win-win situation!

This noodle dish is not exclusive to one cuisine which is why I think it is so flavourful and unique. Mi Goreng is a variation of Chinese chow main which was introduced to a few different countries by Chinese immigrants.

You can find Mi Goreng in places like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. But don't expect to get the same thing when you order this dish in all different countries. Each place has added its own little touch, the base of the dish is the same but it will have elements of the different cuisines.

Mi Goreng ingredients

Mie Goreng is also known as Mee Goreng or Mi Goreng and is considered comfort food in all these Asian countries. Mi Goreng is very easy to find, from local restaurants to the multiple food vendors you find on the streets.

It is also a staple in all convenience stores. You can find them as instant noodles packed in little bags that are ready to eat in two minutes. So, it's the perfect meal after a night of banter or for the struggling student, as in any other place in the world.

But so much flavour in such a short amount of time comes with a high price. The amount of sodium and preservatives these packets contain is insane. And even though it is tempting to just grab a pack and have dinner ready in two minutes, it's not in our best interest to make this an actual meal.

Here, I don't have street vendors to supply my fried noodles needs so I had to figure something out. So I came up with this Mi Goreng recipe that's surprisingly easy to make and fairly cheap.

You can make this delicious dish in less than 25 minutes and we are using a bunch of colourful fresh ingredients to make it happen. So, if you need a quick fix or a midweek dinner this recipe is definitely for you.

Mi Goreng vegetables

I use fresh ingredients and whatever is available at my local store. Since the recipe changes from place to place it's not a very strict one. This gives us a lot of leeway and we can switch it up a bit.

The sauce is what really makes the recipe. It has a very unique flavour which is hard to describe, it's slightly sweet but mostly salty. The secret ingredient is samba oelek which will add an extra kick of flavour to the sauce so make sure you don't leave it out.

Sambal oelek is a chili paste so be cautious when you add it. A little bit should be enough, and we can always add more if needed bu there's no going back. We don't want to ruin this colourful and incredibly delicious bowl of noodles! We want it to be all in our bellies!
