Have you ever heard of Kale chips? There is a good chance you have – many people have boasted about this super snack over the years. You may have even heard about it when kale had center stage in a trending food era not so long ago. 

If you are sitting there wondering what on earth I’m talking about, I’m going to guess that you don’t know what kale chips are. But that’s okay! Let me give you a quick run-down. 

This delicious snack is oven baked kale. Yes, really, it’s that simple. But what lies beyond the surface of this simplicity is what gets everyone talking. 

Sounds good, right? Let’s take a closer look at what it will take to try your very own kale chips. 

To make this super simple recipe, you will need 4 ingredients and 20 minutes. Cleaning up afterwards is a breeze because all you will use is a bowl, a baking tray, and a wooden spoon. Easy clean ups are always my favorite! 

Let’s talk kale. This green leafy vegetable is so good for you that is considered a superfood. It’s packed with an array of essential vitamins and minerals, such as dietary fiber, protein, folate, iron, magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin K (just to name a few!). As if that were not enough, it’s also low in saturated fat and cholesterol, while having a host of health benefits. 

Kale chips make the ultimate vegan snack because they are:

  • Super healthy! 
  • Really easy to make.
  • A good source of protein. 
  • Great with dips or as a side to a meal.

I do not recommend storing any kale chips after they have been cooked for too long. But that’s not too much of a problem as they are so easy to make and take little time to cook.

Ingredients

For the chips

  • 8 oz kale (wash and remove the stalk)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the seasoning

  • 12 tsp black pepper (ground)
  • 12 tsp sea salt

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees (300 F).
  2. Pluck the kale into preferred size and mix it well with the olive oil.
  3. Spread the kale equally on a baking tray which is covers with baking foil and make sure the pieces don't overlap.
  4. Bake the chips for about 10-15 minutes, check after 10 minutes to make sure the chips don't turn brown.
  5. Put a wooden spoon between the oven door, to make sure the moisture can escape.
  6. Let the chips cool down and add the seasoning, adjust taste and enjoy.
